Adventure & Nature Family Experience – Guided Only

This experience is aimed at young to old and families. Start off at Blackwaters River Lodge on site for indigenous tree walk, spot the Knysna Turaco. Then head to the Goukamma River to enjoy canoeing for 1 hour. Experience indigenous forests & plants, hear the sound of the fish eagle and enjoy prolific birdlife. Learn a bit of history about the name of the Goukamma river and why the water is so dark, the Ganzvlei area and how it came about in the history of Knysna. Canoeing will proceed to the Choo Choo railway bridges where we will get off and take a stroll over the Old N2 road bridge up a beautiful part of indigenous forest (1,2 km) to the top to overlook the whole Goukamma Valley– on a beautiful day you can see the ocean. Then walk back and take a tun onto the Choo Choo railway line that leads us to the Goukamma Station on the other side of the N2.

Experience the painted railway bridge by local artists as part of the Knysna Art Project and Route. On the railway line, we will relive the history of the railway line, together with a Knysna Gin & Red Bridge Beer tasting with a special taste of Oom Chris Metlerkamp’s cheese from his dairy.
